Advisee Relationship Management

The project I spent the most time on at HighPoint — a full-featured student advising platform used across higher education institutions. The app lets students book appointments, message advisors, and access contact information, while advisors can manage notes, holds, and action items. Department managers get a layer on top for overseeing advisor workloads and appointments. I worked as a full-stack engineer with a heavier focus on the Kotlin backend, contributing to the GraphQL API design, business logic, and the database migration system that shipped with every monthly release. The frontend was built in TypeScript with React. The interesting technical challenge was building a system flexible enough to support three distinct user roles — student, advisor, department manager, institution manager — with different permissions and workflows, while keeping the data model clean enough to evolve over time.
